Invited Lecture
Professor Deng gave an invited lecture entitled "Regenerative Biomaterials: Convergence of Materials Science, Cell Biology, and Translational Bioengineering" for Frontiers in Macromolecular Science Lecture Series in the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Thanks to Professor Dong Qiu for hosting!

NIH Grant
Deng lab has been awarded a 3-year R03 grant from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases to develop a biomaterial-based cell niche for skeletal muscle regeneration!
Congratulations
Congratulations to Mario for succesfully defending his master thesis entitled "Design, Characterization, and Optimization of Novel Polymer-based Formulations for Controlled Release of Drugs". Great work!

Biomaterials Classes
Our research group has successfully taught biomaterials classes with "Hands-on Lab" for middle school students and chaperones (4-H Round-up) as well as high school age delegates from across Indiana (4-H Academy). Thanks to Dr. Uzunalli for organizing the activities, and all the lab members for their great efforts to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists!

Congratulations
Congratulations to Professor Deng for receiving the 2015-2016 ABE Outstanding Department Teacher Award and 2016 Teaching for Tomorrow Award (https://www.purdue.edu/provost/faculty/teaching4tomorrow.html)!
Review in RETM
Congratulations to Naagarajan, Chunhui and Gozde for the review paper "Polymeric Electrospinning for Musculoskeletal Regenerative Engineering" published in Regenerative Engineering and Translational Medicine (http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s40883-016-0013-8)! This paper highlights the importance of material cues on cellular responses and discuss recent advances in the development of electrospun polymeric structures as biomimetic matrices to regenerate musculoskeletal tissues with a focus on the work involving bone, tendon, skeletal muscle, and their interfaces.
Welcome Dr. Gozde Uzunalli
Welcome Dr. Gozde Uzunalli who has recently completed her PhD in Material Science and Nanotechnology from Bilkent University to join our group as a postdoctoral fellow.

WBC 2016
Both Liangju's abstract entitled "Bio-inspired Composite Hydrogels for Musculoskeletal Regenerative Engineering" and Chunhui's abstract entitled "Harnessing Notch Signaling to Enhance Osteoblast Mineralization for Scaffold-based Bone Regeneration" have been accepted as Oral Presetations in “New Frontiers Symposium” in WBC 2016 (http://www.wbc2016.org/). Congratulations!
Congratulations
Congratulations to Professor Deng on being selected by ABE students as a departmental nominee for both the College of Agriculture Kohls Early Career Outstanding Teacher Award and the College of Engineering A. A. Potter Best Teacher Award.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Chunhui and Liangju for the paper "Biodegradable Polymeric Microsphere-Based Drug Delivery for Inductive Browning of Fat" published in Frontiers in Endocrinology, section Cellular Endocrinology (http://journal.frontiersin.org/article/10.3389/fendo.2015.00169/full)! This paper for the first time demonstrates the feasibility of developing a bioengineered carrier system for controlled drug delivery to achieve inductive browning of adipocytes, and is part of the research topic "Molecular Regulation and Therapeutic Potential of Thermogenic Fat Cells". Thanks to the Guest Associate Chief Editor Jun Wu for putting together such an exciting research topic.

Welcome to the Deng Lab

The Deng Lab focuses on both the fundamental understanding of cellular processes in tissue development and engineering effective biomaterial systems for therapeutic applications.
